Ellie Balk was born 1976 in St. Louis, MO. After earning her BFA in 2002 at Bowling Green State University in Ohio she moved to Clinton Hill, Brooklyn to get her Masters in painting from Pratt institute. Since then, the furthest she has moved is 20 feet. Ellie works as a teaching artist for BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn where she focuses her work on curriculum integrated school beautification projects. Ellie also teaches painting and drawing at the 92nd Y and pursues independent public art projects through grants and partnerships with community organizations. She is the President of SONYA where she works to connect local artists and the community.
