hi. my name is rich woodson. i'm an abstract painter and i don't know why. i've been doing it for years but the best i could tell you about why i do it is that i like to see things created from nothing to something. sounds silly, i know. why abstract over figurative? i don't know. it's certainly a worthy subject for examination but i have no insights into this particular question. i quit painting for about five years in the mid-nineties. i don't know how it happened. i love(d) it so much and yet i let it slip away. i'm back now - manipulating, color, line, form and texture. i'm fairly cerebral by nature so it's doubly weird to me that i can't talk about my paintings. perhaps though that's part of the reason i like abstraction in the first place. not having to talk about it. does it need justifying? nah. i just like it is all.
