Melanie Kozol
|
 |
Inspired by nature, Melanie Kozol uses landscape painting as a metaphor
for
the sublime. Her work seeks to embrace the subconscious through
color, light,
memory and experience. Mood and atmosphere become all important
in creating an
environment that suggests a place beyond what is known. By simplifying
and
abstracting the landscape, she releases the image from literal
representation.
Working with palette knives, Kozol builds the painting in layers
through a
process of addition and subtraction. The results are vibrant, intricate
surfaces
that reawaken us to landscape painting.
