My mission as a fiber artist is to transform my audience by deepening their connection to spirit and emotion through my use of symbolism, color and texture. I connect to life through my creativity and seek to have my audience realize the relationship to art is akin to that of one’s breath. It is life sustaining. I draw upon my customer’s positive responses of," feeling honored to own your expressions of creativity". The traditional African, Native American and Asian symbols in my work represent spiritual balance, celebrating the oneness of the human family despite cultural differences. I pay homage to tribal artists who view the process of art and life as inseparable. It is my belief we have more in common than we are led to believe. The process of color discharge is always full of playful surprises as I remove layer after layer of color, revealing what lies at the surface. This new cloth becomes the playground of my one of kind designs. While my unique clothe has been largely inspired by the lives of indigenous peoples, their creative techniques and bold use of color, I find the world just outside my door generates as many new perceptions of art and the art making process. With each new discovery my heart is renewed. |
