Mary Salstrom
Mary Salstrom is an artist living in Brooklyn, New York who received an MFA from Brooklyn College and a BFA from Pratt Institute. She also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and at the New York Art Students’ League. Every summer she returns to her native Illinois near Rockford, north of Chicago where her ancestors first settled when they immigrated from Sweden. There she paints the Illinois prairie, forest and river while she observes them from life. Color and light, human presence through figures and forms of nature and rural architecture are the predominant focus of her painterly landscapes. She has had 6 solo shows at the Prince Street Gallery in Chelsea, New York City. She also exhibits at the Adagio Fine Arts Gallery in Oregon. Illinois. Her works are in several pubic collections including Pratt Institute, Bryn Mawr College and the Rockford Art Museum. Her work has been featured in an article on Emerging Artists in American Artist magazine and in a Watson Guptil book called Painting the Landscape.
