Theoretically and physically I “excavate” atlases and maps, as a phenomenological endeavor by creating hypertexts and new geo-political mappings, as if the text block and original maps are sites for an archaeological dig. When I appropriate atlases, books and maps, their words and countries are sometimes readable; their shapes are sometimes recognizable, but in every case they are transformed into objects that are visual and speak volumes.  Relinquishing their secrets requires numerous readings. Through the use of various power tools, for example in the Erosion Series, maps are reconfigured into abstract forms and editorializes the notion of representing the world as unstable with inconsequential borders.
