My work focuses on process painting and collaboration, stemming three different paths. My paintings are about layering, depth and tension, building their very personal language though color. The paintings are about a very private domain, a creation of space that is essentially a communication between the surface and me.
My collaborative work is very different in that I paint public murals both in the community and with various Brooklyn middle schools through residencies from BRIC’s Rotunda Gallery. My goal with mural painting is to use painting as a tool to bring together communities and raise awareness to the places we call home. My murals can be viewed at public schools: IS14, IS71 and IS49, and on St. James Place and Gates in Clinton Hill. Upcoming Murals on Gates Ave. at Downing in Clinton Hill, at Tillie’s of Brooklyn on Vanderbilt at DeKalb in Ft.Greene/Clinton Hill and the Independence Community Foundation in DUMBO. On another path, I am Co-Curator and creator of Doll Neighborhood-a collaborative community group of 31 artists coming together to make dolls and video in a social as well as artistic experiment. This growing group is supported by the Village @ Gureje and the Brooklyn Arts Council. |
